The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has confirmed that ULFA is in grip of ISI of Pakistan and operating out of Bangladesh. Addressing an annual press conference to mark the 68th anniversary of the Force, CRPF Director General SIS Ahmed said they had inputs that ULFA was getting support from Pakistan's ISI. ULFA also operated from Bangladesh, he added.

Bulk of the CRPF's 201 battalions is deployed in Jammu and Kashmir and the North Eastern Region. CRPF has 47 battalions in the North-East.

CRPF has also deployed two battalions in Arunachal Pradesh and one battalion along the border with Myanmar to check movement of insurgents along the international border.

Clarifying further, the DG said they had inputs that ULFA was getting direct and indirect support from the ISI.

The DG conceded that Force suffered casualties fighting the extremists. CRPF lost 55 of its men fighting the militants and naxals. This year, CRPF had liquidated 213 militants across the country and caught another 1,800, he said.

Further, there were 37 cases of suicides and two fratricides, Ahmed said.

The DG, however, ruled out the possibility of reducing forces level in trouble-torn Jammu and Kashmir threat perception in the State was still high.

The proposed insurance programme for paramilitary personnel, the DG said was under the consideration of the Home Ministry. He also conceded that the satisfaction level in the housing of personnel was a dismal 12.6 per cent despite best efforts.
