The Assam Public Works (APW) on Friday came
down heavily on the Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) allegedly for scheming
to destroy Assam under the veneer of minority politics. The APW also did not
spare the peace brokers and asserted that some of them were raking in the
moolah taking advantage of the situation.
Addressing media persons, APW director Abhijeet
Sarma said that after the ULFA, the worst thing to happen in the State was
the emergence of a party like the AUDF that was abetting communal hatred and
the jehadi activities. Sarma further said that the AUDF's communal vote bank
policy had encouraged the Bangladeshis who were becoming more confident and
eying the seat of power. "If the AUDF is not checked, the Chief Minister
of Assam would be a Bangladeshi in less than a decade," rued Sarma. Issuing
a warning to the AUDF, Sarma asked the party to stop protecting the interests
of the illegal migrants and informed the press that the APW would approach
the Election Commission with the plea for action against the AUDF for its
communal politics.
Slamming the Government and the political
parties for maintaining silence on the growing presence of jehadi groups in
the char areas in the State, Sarma said that the silence was an indicator
of the actual picture of the political parties engaged simply in political
calculations at the cost of the State and the people.
"The benefit of all the welfare schemes
meant for the minority is reaped by the char dwellers. The indigenous Muslims
appears nowhere in this scenario," regretted Sarma.
