A 70-year-old woman's body has been lying in a Kolkata morgue for the past one week as her children have approached the Calcutta High Court to decide whether she should be buried or cremated.

A Hindu by birth, Pari Mallik, a resident of Chhoto Mallikpara in Howrah, had married a Muslim after the death of her first husband -- a Hindu.

Pari died on Oct 30 and her children from her first marriage want her last rites to be performed according to Hindu rituals while her second husband and daughter want a burial, local reports said.

Both the families have now approached the Calcutta High Court seeking to perform her last rites according to their own religious practices.
