Taslima Nasreen's decision to delete three
controversial pages from Dwikhandito, will not earn her a ticket back to Kolkata
again!
Sources said the Taslima episode was discussed
in the Polit Bureau meeting on Monday and majority of the members were of
the opinion that the controversial author should not be allowed to return
to Kolkata.
When asked that after deletion of the three
controversial pages from the Dwikhandito, won't she be allowed to stay in
Kolkata, Polit Bureau member Biman Bose said, "Taslima is not an Indian
citizen, so it is for the Centre to intervene on this issue."
That Taslima's prospect of going back to Kolkata
has been sealed became more apparent when Biman added, "she has written
several other books."
Apparently, the CPI(M) feels that by adopting
a tough line against Taslima, it could buy peace with the minority community
involved in anti-land acquisition movement .
The CPI(M) leadership is understood to have
used the good offices of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee to convey
to the Centre that it should not send Taslima back to West Bengal as the party
does not want anymore trouble from the minority community.
Though on Taslima issue, the Left Front partners
have not created any major problem so far, but the CPI(M) is worried over
the opposition by the Left-leaning intellectuals to the hounding out of the
Bangladeshi writer from Kolkata.
The Left-leaning intellectuals have accused
the State Government of playing Taslima card to distract public attention
from Nandigram.
