Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil
today described the recent Achalpur riots as "shameful" and called
for initiating a peace-building process. Addressing a meeting at Nagar Bhavan
in Achalpur this morning after visiting the affected area, Patil called upon
the elders from both communities to initiate peace building process and form
peace committees.
Patil said action would be taken against only
those members of minority community who are found responsible for the trouble.
Without evidence, police would not harass or harm anybody, he said. Giving
a clean chit to police, Patil avoided to comment on the allegation that the
riot was pre-planned one and said that the truth would surface after the inquiry
was over.
