A mega 'human chain' from Ganesh Temple in
Secunderabad to the historic Charminar was organised, here on Tuesday demanding
protection to the "Rama Sethu".
Among those who led the protest were religious heads Jagadguru Shankaracharya
of Puri. Accompanied by his wife Vasantha, State party president Bandaru Dattatreya
arrived at the starting point and offered prayers in the temple. He then proceeded
to Charminar and worshipped Goddess Mahalakshmi.
At different points senior party leaders joined
the human chain. Former Sikkim Governor V. Rama Rao was present at YMCA Crossroads,
while former national BJP president Bangaru Laxman and State general secretary
K. Laxman joined at RTC Crossroads.
BJP national secretary N. Indrasena Reddy
was present at Madina, while former Union Minister Ch. Vidyasagar Rao and
city unit president Premsingh Rathore joined at Koti.
Referring to the Centre's affidavit filed
in the Supreme Court, Dattatreya asserted that denial of existence of Lord
Ram and Ramayana amounted to insulting people's sentiments.
"Congress President Sonia Gandhi and
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should tender an apology to people and Ram Sethu
should be declared a national monument," he demanded.
