Senior Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader and
a state legislator Padma Hazarika was grievously injured when militants attacked
him near his residence at Sootea in North Assam district of Sonitpur on Thursday

The police said three unidentified youth came
to the residence-cum-office of the BJP leader at Rangiya railway town about

A servant of the house was also injured in the attack.
Senior police officers rushed to the incident
site immediately after the killing. The police have remained clueless about
the identity of the killers while involvement of militants is not ruled out.
In another incident, Opposition Asom Gana
Parishad (AGP) leader and MLA, Padma Hazarika was seriously injured when a
group of unidentified militants fired upon him while he was going back home

The legislator was alone in his Santro car
when ultras opened fire. He received at least five bullet injuries. The car
was totally damaged as the terrorists also hurled grenade on it. On being
fired upon, the legislator ran out of his car, trying to protect himself under

His condition is now stable in the Army base hospital in Tezpur.
The MLA has been opposed to continuing encroachment
upon the forest areas of Sonitpur district by a particular tribe under the
covert patronage of a group of tribal militant.
