Sharma who died battling terrorists in New Delhi was a strong-willed man who
pursued his goals since childhood with determination till he achieved them.
Poor in Mathematics at the primary level,
Sharma later improved his performance in the subject by sheer perseverance
securing as much marks in it as anyone good at it would have been expected
to do.
"I remember he had secured just two marks
in a school examination. I asked him to concentrate on the subject. Then he
did so well that he preferred to have Mathematics as a subject in class 12
and secured more than 75 per cent marks," his father Narottam Sharma
told PTI.
The brave police officer had got a job in
the finance ministry before joining the police force.
"He preferred to join police service
because he had interest for the profession. He was very brave from childhood,"
the 80-year-old said as emotions crossed his face.
After seven days of training in police service,
Sharma had fallen ill.
"But he never gave up the spirit. He
went and rejoined the training even before he had recuperated completely,"
Sharma senior said with a glint of pride in his eyes.
Sharma was the only son of his parents and
had five sisters whom he looked after so well.
"He was in constant touch with my daughters
and never neglected any of them," his father said.
He was fond of eating mutton and had strong
dislike for liquor, beer and cigarettes, his father said.
