Hindus welcome Hollywood celebrities to immerse
in Hinduism but taking it seriously and not just using it as a fashion statement.
Reacting to the recent adventures of Hollywood
luminaries flirting with Hinduism, Hindu concepts and terminology, acclaimed
Hindu statesman Rajan Zed in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said, "Hinduism
is the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about one billion
followers and a rich philosophical thought and it should not be taken lightly".
Zed, who is the president of Universal Society
of Hinduism, further says that If Hollywood bigwigs are really serious in
their involvement with Hinduism, they are most welcome and they will gladly
provide these seekers the resources they need for their study and research.
But if their involvement in Hinduism is just
because it appears hip to sample a little flavor, sprinkle little terminology
around, show off a symbol/image/style; or to advance their own non-spiritual
agenda; or it solely sounds flip; it sometimes results in pillaging serious
spiritual doctrines and revered symbols and hurting the devotees, Zed points
out.
Hollywood celebrities need to have more patience
and go beyond the superficial because Hinduism concepts evolved over thousands
of years and need serious study. There are no short cuts and mishmash creates
more confusion. Moksha, brahm, dharma, karma, samadhi, mantra, etc., are contemplative
concepts not to be thrown around loosely or used for dramatic effects, Rajan
Zed argues.
