With the name of Uttar Pradesh surfacing as
the breeding ground for terrorists responsible for the attacks across the
country, Chief Minister Mayawati on Sunday blamed the previous Mulayam Singh
Yadav government.
Lack of will coupled with weak policies of
the Mulayam government led to the collapse of the law and order in the state,
said Mayawati, adding, "We inherited a troubled legacy. But we have managed
to accomplish the task as we are committed to restore law and order in the
state."
During the previous Samajwadi Party regime,
the state had seen a series of terror attacks in places like Varanasi, Ayodhya
and Faizabad, she said. "The incidents clearly indicate that the then
government was totally insensitive towards terrorism. Had timely action been
taken, terror outfits would not have managed to strengthen their roots in
the state."
"Despite no major help from the Centre,
the state has managed to effectively curb crime and activities of terror outfits,"
said the CM, pointing to the arrest of Abu Bashar, mastermind of Ahmedabad
blasts, from Azamgarh.
"When it comes to issues related to unity
and integrity of the nation, my government has never played politics and extended
all help to the Centre. We will continue to do that in future."
Expressing concern over the attacks on Christians
in the BJP and its allies ruled states, Mayawati asked the Centre to put a
check on the activities of outfits associated with the BJP.
