Introduction: No church was attacked in Karnataka.
Centre cannot tame terrorists, but threatens elected govts in Karnataka and
Orissa.
Chief Minister, Shri B.S. Yeddyurappa-a quintessential
politician with keen acumen-was quick to realise that it could be the mischief
of the Opposition parties and vested interests were trying to engineer a crisis
in order to seek his government's dismissal on the grounds of collapse of
law and order machinery in the state.
He rushed to Mangalore and Udupi along with
the home minister, Dr V.S.Acharya, DG & IGP, Srikumar and top officials
and reviewed the situation. His stance was fair and just. While he appealed
to the Christian brethren not to indulge in violence and assured all protection
to their lives and property, he also appeled to the Hindus-no matter what
the provocation is, they should not take law into their own hands.
The state cabinet, in its regular weekly meeting
on Thursday, decided to refer the entire incident, including the 'causes and
reasons' to the Corps of Detectives (CoD) in order to expose the miscreants.
"I have also directed the CoD to mention in their report as to what precautionary
and preventive measures could be taken to ensure that such things do not recur
elsewhere in the state," he told a crowded press conference immediately
after the cabinet meeting.
Prima facie, there is sufficient valid and
tangible reasons and provocation for the Hindu society to react-the way in
which it has reacted now-against the 'so-called' churches that have raised
their head like mushroom throughout the state.
"It all started when a newly-found outfit,
Newlife - radicals among the Christians - started aggressive campaign to convert
people. That conversion is nothing new for Christians and it in their blood,
goes without saying. But New Life is something really new in its methodology
and approach adopted for conversion. It makes the innocent and gullible people
to trample upon the photos of Hindu gods and goddesses, insult Hindu gods,
use foul language against gods, goddesses and seers and gives new names to
those who convert. We have given scores of complaints but there has been no
action by the police, Bajrang Dal state convenor, Mahendra Kumar said.
Mahendra Kumar asserted that all the conversion
session by fraudulent means are going on in illegal churches and his complaint
is only against such illegal churches and not against Christian brethren.
"A church has to be built with the approval of the diocese on the land
bought by the trust or donated by the government. But Newlife activists have
taken some government buildings or sheds citing some other purpose but later
started using for religious propogation. This is not approved either by the
government or by the diocese.
This reporter ascertained from Davanagere
district administration that a dilapidated shed belonging to agricultural
department in Bada village, was illegally occupied by New Life evangelists
and conversion activities were started. On repeated complaints from well-meaning
and right-thinking citizens of the Hindu society, the municipal authorities
issued notices and asked the evangelists to show proof that the place has
been allotted to carry on religious activities. "Even after one month,
the Newlife workers could not prove their legitimacy. Finally the government
seized the place and took possession of it," an official of the Davanagere
district administration said.
But a software techie, Hemanth Kumar Bharani,
raised a question that can expose the double-standards of the pseudo-seculars
and pseudo-intellectuals.
Has the law met its logical end with respect
to Mohd Afzal Guru? He was caught, arrested, FIR was filed, investigated,
charge-sheet was filed, argued in the court and finally was held guilty by
the lower court, then by the Delhi high court, then by the Supreme Court,
which confirmed the death sentence. Has he been executed? Has the law taken
its own course to its logical end? The same pseudo-secular parties, pseudo-intellectuals
have been arguing not to hang Afzal Guru?
According to intelligence sources, Newlife
has been carrying on its activities in Raichur, Bellary, Mangalore, Davanagere,
Udupi, Chamarajanagar, Gadag, Chitradurga, Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts.
"As as many as 16,000 Hindus, mostly belonging to Lingayath community,
have been converted in Davanagere district alone. There were 34 churches about
five years ago in Davanagere district. Now there are 384 churches where as
the Christian population is hardly negligible. This is the sinister design
of the expansionists Christians," noted writer, Dr M.Chidananda Murthy
told reporters.
As expected the Congress supreme, Sonia Gandhi
has taken 'serious note' of the happenings in Karnataka and has decided to
send a fact-finding team to study the situation. That the team will be headed
by Ms Margaret Alwa, a senior Congress leader belonging to Christian community
and hailing from the coastal Karwar district, goes without saying. It is not
a coincidence that Sonia's close advisers are - apart from Margaret Alwa -
Oscar Fernandes from Udupi and Veerappa Moily from Mangalore. And Sonia's
sancho panza is B.Janardhana Poojary, also from Mangalore. Indeed a perfect
recipe to cause trouble to the nascent BJP government!
