The Bajrang Dal, which has been in the eye
of the storm for their alleged involvement in attacks on churches in Mangalore
and neighbouring districts, has denied the charges, saying that they were
only supporting those fighting against conversions.
Speaking to The Express, State Bajrang Dal
convener Mahendra Kumar alleged that the New Life Church was involved in conversions.
''Now that they have come to our doorsteps questioning our faith, we have
to resist their moves. Some Hindus have protested against conversions, and
we are with them in our fight against conversions,'' he said.
Kumar, however, regretted the desecration
of Jesus Christ's statue in one of the churches. ''We have a good standing
with local Christians,'' he said stressing on the need for an amicable solution
through dialogue rather than violence.
The Bajrang Dal leader also denied any links
with Srirama Sene, a Hindu outfit floated by Pramod Mutalik. ''We don't want
any communal violence to flare up in the region, so we are not supporting
any such elements engineering communal clashes,'' he said and appealed to
political parties not to politicise the issue.
