Ever since the Assam serial bomb blasts on
October 30, as many as 257 illegal Bangladeshi migrants have been identified
and pushed back to Assam by the Meghalaya Police. The biggest drive against
the illegal Bangladeshi migrants was carried out on Sunday when 200 suspected
Bangladeshis were rounded up from a locality, also known as Bangladeshi colony
in Shillong, bundled into three trucks and sent to Assam.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Donkupar Roy told
The Indian Express on Monday: "I have asked the district administration
and police to be vigilant and push back not only illegal Bangladeshis but
also outsiders who come to Meghalaya without any proper identification proof."
Asserting that all the Northeast states must work together to combat terrorists'
design to target the region, he said: "Security concern should not be
confined only to Assam; all the other states in the region must also join
hands and fight Terror unitedly."
Roy said the Northeastern states would soon
hold a meeting to discuss security-related issues.
East Khasi SP A R Mawthoh said the drive against
illegal Bangladeshis in Shillong would continue.
