The BJP on Saturday raked up its pet plan
of abrogating Article 370 on special status to Jammu and Kashmir, but admitted
to allies' objection to such a measure, which requires two-thirds majority
in Parliament.
BJP national general secretary Arun Jaitley
said, "BJP is asking for its scrapping. But, it is possible only when
we have such political power in Parliament."
"Though some of our partners in NDA are
not in favour of its removal, we stick to our stand. It can be scrapped only
with two-thirds majority in Parliament."
To those opposing the Article's abrogation,
he said, "they should go for an introspection whether this article has
helped in integration of the State or improved situation in Kashmir."
"I feel, it has not. But (it has) only
done damage," the saffron leader said.
Referring to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's
recent statement that no party can touch the Article, Jaitley said, "arithmetic
in Lok Sabha may not be in favour of its scrapping, but the counter productivity
of the Article will be reflected in the long run."
