Two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested on
Monday night from Nizamuddin area. Police suspect the duo was involved in
last year's September 27 Mehrauli bomb blast.
According to the police, Mehboob (26) was
earlier arrested in cases of terrorist activities in Bangladesh and Muneer
(26) convicted in a case of murder and robbery in Rajinder Nagar area in 2004.
Sources said after the Mehrauli blasts, the
Delhi Police arrested three Bangladeshis for robbery and they revealed that
they used low-intensity explosives to harm their victims and they procured
them from Jalpaiguri.
This led the police to Bangladesh where they
discovered Mehboob used to supply the bombs to robbers.
The police said Mehboob has disclosed that
he was working for Tunda alias Kana alias Ismail, a terrorist who died in
an encounter by the Kamangi Chowk police in Bangladesh.
"Before Tunda's encounter, Mehboob was
arrested by the Bangladesh police and seven bombs were recovered from him.
He was released from jail last year and he escaped to India," the police
said. "The seven bombs found from (Mehboob's) possession match with the
one used in Mehrauli blast and therefore we suspect that he was the one who
brought the bombs to Delhi and may be involved," the police said.
The facts, however, are still being verified,
the police claim.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) H G
S Dhaliwal said, Mehboob's movement at the time of blasts in Mehrauli is being
verified, as he has been evasive about his movements in Delhi at the time
of the Mehrauli blast.
The police added Mehboob settled in Nizamuddin
area with Muneer after coming to India.
The police said Muneer's involvement in the
Mehrauli blast has not been confirmed yet.
The police are also verifying the duos involvement
in mysterious low-intensity blasts, which took place in some areas of South
Delhi - IIT gate and Malviya Nagar - last year.
