The Delhi High court on Thursday restrained police from taking any action
against a Muslim girl who claimed to have married a Hindu boy against parents'
wish and embraced Hinduism.
Issuing notice to Delhi police, Justice V K Jain directed it to file a response
by February 25.
The court was hearing a petition filed by 19-year-old Sabanam (name changed)
as well as her husband, seeking direction to police not to harass them following
an FIR registered with Dwaraka police by the girl's father.
According to the petitioners, both of them are major and got married in an
Arya Samaj Mandir in Jamuna Bazar on December 22 against the wish of their
parents.
The girl's parents lodged an FIR and the police have been harassing not only
the couple but also the husband's brother who supported the marriage, the
petition said.
