Though annoyed with him for his failure to
lead, the Centre has decided to stand by J&K CM Omar Abdullah as it sees
the current violence as part of a strategy by separatist forces acting in
concert with Pakistan-backed terror groups.
The message coming from discussions between
PM Manmohan Singh and Omar attended by home minister P Chidambaram and foreign
minister S M Krishna was that first priority was to quell violence.
The Centre has several grievances against
the CM. His inaccessibility and failure to communicate even with his National
Conference colleagues has added to the chaos. But faced with the larger problem
separatists stoking protests to force security forces to react, triggering
a cycle of violence the Centre has chosen to ignore the CMs failings and stand
by him.
