A meeting between the PM and BJP leaders over
the crisis in J&K took a serious turn, with L K Advani telling Manmohan
Singh that he did not have much of a clue about the situation in the troubled
state. The PM, however, assured the opposition party that he was agreeable
to an all-party meeting on the J&K issue.
According to sources, Advani told Singh that
separatists had taken to stone pelting because international opinion no longer
approved of acts of terror under any pretext and after recognizing that India's
security forces were more than a match for them. "Your government failed
to notice the switch of tactics," sources quoted the BJP veteran as bluntly
telling the PM.
In the memorandum that the BJP delegation
submitted to the PM, BJP mentioned that chief minister Omar Abdullah had become
unpopular among people and administration has collapsed in the state.
Advani along with his colleagues - Leaders
of opposition in the two Houses, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley - also told
the PM not to give in to pressure from separatists for a political package.
"We have come to request you not to succumb to the acceptance of any
separatist demand," the memorandum said.
