The BJP has reacted cautiously to the Ayodhya
title verdict, saying it was a "new chapter in national integration"
and a "new era for inter-community relationship". The party described
the judgement as a significant step towards construction of a grand Ram temple
at Ayodhya. The party's core group, comprising senior central leaders, met
here on Thursday to discuss the verdict's ramifications. Leader of Opposition
in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley briefed the core group about its salient points.
"In so far as the judgement upholds the right of Hindus to construct
a temple at the garbh-grih, it is a significant step towards the construction
of a grand temple at the birthplace of lord Ram," senior BJP leader LK
Advani told reporters.
Mentioning the ASI and other expert agencies,
he said it was categorically stated that there were remains of a Hindu religious
structure where the disputed structure stood.
The party, however, remain tightlipped on
the Muslims' right on one-third portion of the land. Advani, reading from
prepared text, ended his Press conference without taking any questions on
this point. He said the BJP believed that this verdict opened a new chapter
for national integration and inter-community relations.
