Members of the Republican Party of India (Athawale)
shouted slogans and pelted stones at Bollywood actor Anupam Kher's house at
Juhu here on Saturday. They were dissenting his derogatory remarks against
the Constitution.
Speaking about Anna Hazare's andolan to a
television channel on Friday, Mr. Kher had allegedly said that the Constitution
should be thrown out.
A group of around 10 RPI workers attacked
the actor's house at 8 p.m. They have been apprehended and a case has been
registered against them.
It is not known whether the actor was inside
his home at the time of the incident.
The police said the security guard shut the
gates of the house when the protesters began shouting slogans.
When contacted, RPI leader Ramdas Athawale
told The Hindu over telephone that the workers had registered their protest
against Mr. Kher's comments.
He demanded that the State Home department
inquire into the actor's remarks.
"Mr. Kher is an actor. We all respect
him. But his remarks were inappropriate. And it is sad that they came in the
context of Anna's agitation. If someone insults our Constitution, our activists
will not take it lying down," Mr. Athawale said.
