Kapil Sibal, who became Telecom Minister eight months ago, on Friday said he was not in position to answer whether former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran had installed an illegal telephone exchange with 323 telephone lines or not.

To specific questions on the CBI findings on the illegal exchange at Maran's home and BSNL's denial, Sibal said. "CBI is investigating the matter. We are waiting for the details of the investigation…how can I comment when investigation is going on."

On being asked whether he inquired with the BSNL on this issue, Sibal said: "The matter is under CBI investigation so how can I make an opinion."

CBI on September 2007 found the existence of illegal telephone exchange of BSNL at Maran's house in Chennai. For saving Maran, BSNL issued a statement that there was only one ordinary phone only installed at his home. The CBI investigation was scuttled by the UPA Government for the past four years.
