The Delhi Police Special Cell claimed to have busted a Lashkar-e-Toiba terror module spread across Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan with the arrest of Mohammed Shahid, 28, the Imam of a mosque in Mewat. Another Imam of Mewat, suspected to be Shahid's associate and mastermind, is on the run.
"A lookout circular will be issued. There is proof that he visited Pakistan twice in the past. We have got documents which clearly prove they were planning to strike markets in the capital," said a source.
According to sources, a top LeT commander, identified as Javed Baluchi and believed to be operating from Pakistan, was their handler. Shahid, a resident of Nuh, reportedly came under the radar after agencies traced Baluchi's calls to his cellphone. Investigations have reportedly traced about half-a-dozen such cellphone numbers active in Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan.
The Special Cell claimed to have recovered a diary from Shahid which gives details of a terror attack being planned in the capital. Shahid has reportedly said that the absconding cleric roped him in for terror activities about eight months ago.
