VHP Australia held a two-day Indian Culture and Heritage Teaching Progam, for volunteer teachers involved in its educational programs on 26 January at Toongabbie Public School hall. More than 80 teachers attended the program that was supported by a Holroyd Council CPA grant. Mrs Akila Ramarathinam, VHP General Secretary, opened the event. Mrs Saraswathi Shashi, VHP coordinator, made an initial presentation about Indian civilisation and heritage.
Many participant teachers shared ideas and their experience on modern teaching methods.
Holroyd Mayor Hon Clr Nasr Kafrouni and his wife were the chief guests at the program. In his speech the mayor thanked the volunteers for their efforts in educating the next generation about their culture and values. The VHP has also reportedly received assurance of support from the mayor for a Vedic Centre in the Greystanes area.
The VHP conducts several educational and other social programs on a regular basis.
