The Hyderabad high court has imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on an organisation that filed a plea demanding that the state government should take over the properties of late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa in Telangana.

Dismissing the petition, the court said the plea was not a Public Interest Petition but a Publicity Interest Petition. It also directed the government to recover the fine amount within four weeks.

Gareeb International Society had filed the petition that came up for hearing this morning.

The properties include some grape gardens, agricultural land and commercial space estimated to be worth 14.5 crores.

Jayalalithaa, 68, one of India's most powerful and popular politicians, died late on December 5 in a Chennai hospital, nearly three months after she was admitted there.

A Chennai court had also dismissed the petition of social activist Traffic Ramaswamy when he had sought details about Jayalalithaa's health status while she was in hospital.
