“You are lucky to be born in India”. Thank your forefathers.
Going anonymous for obvious reasons.
I am a 26 year old Hindu woman living in my beloved country Pakistan since birth. We are 2 sisters and 1 brother. My dad runs a small departmental store.
As much as we love our motherland we are proud of our forefathers who chose to remain here even after the partition. We didn't have lands even then but just that it was our home and the neighborhood. But now when we ponder over it, we feel worthless. We are kufars, that's our sole identify. We are mostly looked down upon. We are regarded like someone the Muslim Pakistanis shouldn't be seen with. I wear a bindi sometimes. I have seen women passing lewd comments on my appearance and walking away if they find themselves seated to me in the buses. And not to forget the infinite times when we have been asked to cover our heads. We have been targeted for being “non believers” in weddings or social functions as well. Everything we do is “shirk”. Being Hindus or non believers we will never attain Jannah which basically means heaven.
The comments section of the video will give you some idea.
Me and my sister have been advised to carry a dupatta while we were shopping at a shopping mall by random women who think it is their greatest responsibility to advise us to cover ourselves (sic). The general masses are regressive by nature and even their diet plan has been decided 1400 years ago.We kufars are sinners because we were not born Muslims and we constantly live in fear from fundamentalists who are present in Pakistan in abundance. Go and check the population statistics of Hindus in Pakistan, there is nothing to hide.
I have my friends who till few years ago didn't care about hanging out at my place but now their families want them to distance themselves because that might affect their marital alliances.
There is absolutely no freedom of speech for common Hindus like us. Yes, there are activists who do voice their opinions but not common masses like us. No one cares about out worshiping places. My brother once wrote something on his Facebook wall that didn't go down well with his classmates and friends. The matter went upto the principal who actually called him in his office to be careful with his posts which any case shouldn't seems like the minorities are ill treated in Pakistan. He was asked to shift back to India from “he came from”.. I remember my father's sad face that day. I am sure he might have skipped his meal that day. It was such a trivial matter but it was handled like my brother had committed a treason. He wanted to join the air force but he is pestering my dad to send him abroad because he doesn't want to stay back here. The people here are extremely judgmental as far as non Muslims are concerned.
It has become difficult living in Pakistan since recent times. They watch us suspiciously during India Pakistan matches..we have been asked whether we felt bad for India last year 18th June when Pakistan won the match. I wish I wasn't born a Hindu in Pakistan. Minorities have no rights here.
Edit- I am overwhelmed with all the response to my answer. I honestly didn't expect more than 50 views since I was writing anoynomously.
My heart is filled with gratitude looking at all your warm and wonderful comments. Thank you for calling us to your country and I do accept it as well. I will surely visit India someday but my home is Pakistan and that's the truth. I love my motherland though she has been helpless in protecting some of her children. I also request you all, please don't allow yourself to think bad about every Pakistani based on my situation. We all are just like you!
The regressive mentality is majorly due to lack of proper education, closed minds, patriarchal society and the most important because of the fear of religion. There are uneducated mullahs in every nook and corner in the remotest areas in Pakistan where the only job they do is instill fear in the hearts of Muslims by interpreting the religious doctrines according to their conveniences. I know things are difficult for us but then this is our HOME. Me or my family has still not thought about permanent migration because we are hopeful.
To my brother from India who equated his situations to ours for being a Muslim in India,
Consider yourself lucky that being a minority you still have a massive population with representatives in the government who fight for your rights. That's possible because you live in a secular country and I don't. I live in an Islamic republic where each and everything has an Islamic angle and non believers who don't have many representatives to fight for their rights.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
