A Christian resident of Goa, on Monday, complained to the inspector general (Bareilly) DS Thakur that one Naeem Khan of Badaun became her friend on Facebook under the fictitious identity of Sahil Sharma. She claimed that he met her several times in Goa while he was already married and a father of three kids.

The woman said she had already lodged an FIR under IPC’s sections 420 (cheating) and 417 (punishment for cheating) against the accused in Goa. The IG said that he had instructed Badaun police to probe the matter and take appropriate action.

The victim told TOI that she came in contact with Khan through Facebook in September 2015 when the latter sent her a friend request what she accepted it and the two started chatting over the phone. “Before taking our relationship to another level, I wanted to meet him personally and see where he lived and what he did. So I decided to come to UP and reached Agra in December 2015 where he received me and took me to his sister’s place in Sambhal. We spent one night there and the next day he took me to Badaun. Then he told me his real name and he introduced me to his wife and three kids. I was completely shocked on knowing that he was married with three kids. I moved out from there and came back to Goa,” she told TOI.

The 38-year-old woman, who is a marketing executive in a private company in Goa, said that Khan again contacted him after three months and said that he had no job and wanted to come Goa to find a job there.

“Though after that incident, I didn’t want to have any contact with him, but seeing his poor condition, I allowed him to come to Goa. He stayed for four days here and got back to UP taking Rs 70,000 from me. He often phoned me after that and in December 2017, he told me that he had been suffering from appendicitis. I gave him money again for his surgery. After a few months, he had come again with a new story seeking more money,” she said.

The woman said that when she asked Khan to return her money, he stopped talking to her and switched his phone off.

“For the next two months when he was not available on phone, I decided to go to Badaun to take my money back and I reached there on March 3 this year. He and his family misbehaved with me. After spending two hours there, I came back to Goa and filed a police complaint on April 13, 2018 against him,” the woman said.

Ismail Nagar station house officer in Badaun, Ram Naresh Mathur, said, “We have received a fax from Goa police. On Monday, the IG also instructed us to look into the matter. We have traced the accused, but since the FIR is lodged in Goa, only Goa police can arrest him. We will provide all assistance when they (Goa police) come to arrest him.”
