A group of nuns along with the Joint Christian Council on Saturday have carried out a protest seeking immediate arrest of rape-accused Bishop of Jalandhar, Franco Mulakkal.

Five nuns from the convent in Kuravilangad, who are supporting the victim, attended the protest in front of the Kerala High Court.

The nuns alleged that the government and the church have let them down.

We have lost faith in the police and the church. Only option left in front of us is the judiciary. We are demanding an immediate arrest of the bishop.
- The nuns said in Kochi

The incident came to light in July this year after a nun in the Kuravilangad convent lodged a complaint of rape and sexual assault against the Jalandhar Bishop. The investigation gained momentum only after the issue became subject of public debate and media pressure.

In August, the investigation team went to Jalandhar to record the statement of the Bishop.

The journalists who tried to capture the visuals of Jalandhar Bishop were brutally assaulted by the members of the Bishop House. Following the questioning, Kerala Police team returned back to the state claiming that they needed more clarity on the nun's statement.

Even after three weeks, the investigation team was not able to record fresh statement of the nun. This has agitated the victim and her family as they have now decided to move the Kerala HC, demanding arrest of the Bishop.
