The Congress also received donations from fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi but later the grand old party issued a clarification saying it received no money from the absconding diamantire.

The foundation led by interim party president Sonia Gandhi is in the eye of a storm over fundings received from Chinese government-linked organisations.

PSUs funded Sonia Gandhi-headed RGF
Last month, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in a press conference demanded an explanation from the Congress asking why the Chinese Embassy donated about Rs 90 lakh to the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. Prasad also claimed that this was the reason why Congress was not condemning China.

Apart from receiving donations from Choksi, Naik and China, public sector undertakings (PSUs) like the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC), the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), the Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) and State Bank of India (SBI) made annual donations to the RGF when the Congress-led UPA was in power from 2004 till 2014.
